Below are some notes that I took while listening to Battles & Victories by Brian Houston, Pastor of Hillsong Church in Australia.
Psalm 34:19 - Many are the afflictions of the righteous BUT the lord delivers him out of them all.
1.) How have you been speaking?
David says, "I will bless the Lord at all times, his praise shall be continually in my mouth" this was a commitment even in the face of his struggle.
James 3:8 - The tongue is an unruly poison.
The Devil wants to frame your words. He wants you to speak negative. You can speak what's going on in the inside, but that will never help anything. Chose to speak life.
2.) How are you feeling?
Don't accept or embrace how you feel.Psalm 34:2 - My soul shall make it's boast in the Lord, the humble shall hear it and be glad.
We can so easily live out of the way we feel and never challenge it. Challenge the way you feel, chose to feel better.
David started to challenge the attack on his soul, "my soul shall magnify the Lord" Make God huge!
When you magnify God you push aside the defeat of your own world.
Psalm 139:14 - I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Psalm 13:2 - David says everyday I have this sadness in my heart. Do you ask sometimes how long do I have to keep encouraging myself?
3.) How do you look?
Where are you looking, if you look in at yourself you get miserable and introspective, if you look around you start seeing the unfairness, you look at the life you have and the life that others have and you get envious.
Psalm 73 - For I was envious when I looked at the prosperity of the wicked.
When you look to God you will be radiant.look at Him, show him your best smile. (message)
Don't where your negative emotions on your face.
4.) How's your appetite?
Are you still hungry for God and the things of God?
Disappointments can affect your appetite.
Psalm 34:8 - Oh taste and see that the Lord is good.
If you want to see the goodness of God we have to keep the taste of God.
The Bible says taste and then see. Don’t wait for the good to come before you taste.
5.) How's your spirts?
Good, bad, broken? The Bible says a broken spirit is like a city without walls.
Psalm 34:18 - The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
A Crushed spirit is like having a city without walls, anything can come in and go out.
